A year without a Paris Hilton Sex Tape? No! August 6, 2006

Yep, that’s right! Our currently leading sex-tape ho-bag has sworn off all sexual contact for at least a year. Ooo…
Here is my problem with this…If she isn’t there to be the sexual scapegoat for the repressed sexuality of our ridiculously puritan society, won’t we all just explode in sexual ickiness? You don’t believe that we live in a ridiculously puritan society?
Here is proof…From the mouths of babes, so to speak.

Woohoo! The U.S.A. and France have finally agreed to stop fighting! August 5, 2006

Yay! Oh, wait, they aren’t at war. Why are they negotiating a cease fire again?
So they agree, that the U.N. might agree, to present a ceasefire that, maybe, someday, Israel and Lebanon will both agree to. Hmm…Why is it that I feel the U.N. is frigging worthless? Oh, it’s because they have the eye of the global media, yet are completely impotent to do…anything at all. I get a giant headline that U.S.A. and France have agreed on a ceasefire, and all it means is that Israel and Lebanon (oops, *Hezbollah*) will keep having at each other. Just like most U.N. revolutions, it isn’t even worth the paper it’s written on. It’s verbal (or in this case, contractual) masturbation on a global scale by a worthless organization.

Wow…This has to be one of the most vicious comedy bits the Daily Show has ever done on the religious factionalism of the region. It’s definitely a good watch…
The Ultimate in Preventing Disgruntled Ex-Employee Rampages August 4, 2006

We’ve all heard about the corporate sub-culture devoted to research ways to reduce the chance a disgruntled employee will go on a rampage. Firing on Fridays, giving better recommendations than merited, laying off rather than firing, etc…
Well, now we have reached a new low apparently.
LONDON (AFP) – A company has defended its decision to sack one of its staff by text message, claiming it was keeping in touch with youth culture.
Katy Tanner, a 21-year-old sales assistant, received the message while she was off work with a migraine, the South Wales Echo newspaper said Friday.
The text message said: “We will not require your services anymore…Thank you for your time with us.”
“I don’t think it’s right to just text someone. At least they should have talked to me face to face,” Tanner said.
“You’re not allowed to text in sick, you have to phone. The fact that they texted me is a bit of double standards.”
Wow…That’s all I have to say…What a pathetic cowardly way to fire someone. And from what she said, she called in sick earlier that day, since you can’t text in sick! So they decided, after she called in sick, to fire her, and avoid directly telling her about it.
The oddest thing is, it isn’t like it was a bunch of suits in a boardroom necessarily. This was a body-piercing and jewelry store in Cardiff. Weird.

According to this article at arstechnica.com, AOL’s dropping customer count has finally prompted some axe action from Time Warner. TW is selling off all Europe dial-up infrastructure, making many AOL paid services free, and firing around 5,000 employees. Yikes…Sounds pretty serious. The article says that they will go the advertising route to make up for the loss of revenue from their pay services. I wonder if they’ll still send out those neat little coasters with their logo on them for me to use…
Ah, our rich, intrepid lawmakers once again win a battle against the poor August 4, 2006

Well, our Senate has yet again shot down a bill to raise the minimum wage in our country. I mean, it isn’t like the cost of living has increased, has it? It’s not like inflation actually exists.
According to an article on CNNMoney.com, both sides seem to be playing politics with this one, with the Democrats having stomped on the bill because it was porkbarrelled with a decrease in estate taxes. One can only imagine why Republicans would have sponsored this bill for the first time in ten years right now. Oh, wait, it is an election year, isn’t it? The Democrats are claiming this bill to be a clever double threat: Porkbarrelled estate tax decreases that benefit only the rich, and election year sucking up to the poor if it actually passed. And so they stomped it into the ground.
My question is this…What the hell is an estate tax decrease doing on a bill to raise the minimum wage? Someone tell me what the hell the two have to do with one another? Maybe I’ll believe the Republicans actually give a crap about the poor if someone can answer this question…
And should the Democrats, even knowing that the rich would prosper in more than one way if this bill passed, still have stopped it? It would improve the lot of the poor in this country by finally allowing minimum wage to catch up to the increased standard of living. The rich pay less taxes, the Republicans can claim to have sponsored and passed the bill. Are these two consequences bad enough to stomp on the bill? Apparently Democrats feel that they were.
Thanks again, Congress…

All righty, time to get this blog rolling! My last post was WAY too didactic and supported by evidence, let’s get into some dirt now. Ends-Means doctrine…What does it mean to you? Well, to me, it can come down to some very basic ethics. Such as…If you were a police officer, and you had foreknowledge (in our ethical supposition, perfect foreknowledge) that a child you would encounter would very soon detonate an IED, killing over twenty people at a roadside cafe (say, in Baghdad), and you got there just in time to pull the trigger or not, would you do it?
This is the logical conclusion of the Ends-Means doctrine as written, the good of the many supersedes the good of the few (or the one!) So, for a real-world example, Soldiers are fighting and dying steadily in Iraq to make sure that future generations may be free. Or, possibly, you might believe they are over there fighting so that those little children, women, and men civilians (hah!) don’t swim over here with their Improvised explosve devices and detonate them here.
Well, first off, who just got elected in Iraq as the dominant party? That’s right, the Shi’a. Hmm, and who is the ruling faction in Iran, and dominant in Syria? That’s right, you got it. Well, let’s look at the region, shall we, and think about when exactly this region was at peace. Oh, wait, fucking never! There have always been factions in this region (back to biblical times, which is the fucking problem), and every time the West has interfered, things got worse. It would appear we just handed Iraq directly to Iran, instead of actually having an insurgency. An “insurgency” would imply Iraqis against Iraqis, which does not seem to be the case. This is more of a terror campaign, fought by nearby nations with vested interests in Iraq, seeking destabilization or perhaps a compatible regime to theirs. The number of people who want democracy in Iraq appear to be the minority.
So what about our doctrine now? At what point do we realize that sacrificing a generation of our young people into the gaping maw of factional civil war in Iraq may not be in America’s, or its’ troops, best interest? Haven’t we been through this before in Vietnam?
Well, the Bush Administration (heretofore referred to as Bush and Co., or simply the Retard Pretend Messiah, depending on how pissed off I am at the time), say we must stay the course, and as the Iraqis stand up, we (meaning our troops) will stand down. Yet just this week, he admitted that things are going real shitty and more troops will be sent in. Hmmm.
What hope do we have that this will ever end? Well, seeing as we just aided and abetted an election basically handing this country to the dominant faction in Iran, not very much, IMHO. Ooo, after this blog entry I’m probably on Bush and Co.’s terrorist watch list. Scary!
Anyway, from now on my entries will be shorter, and more geared towards current events, or specific issues, instead of long boring pontifications into the darker nature of man. Well, okay, there might be a few of those. But less than before.
Oh, and express your opinion all you want, as usual, but if you attempt to say I am wrong, and you try to debate and destroy my points, the rules of logical argument will be enforced. This will be a normal caveat at the end of all my blog entries. Opinion or debate, your choice. I never attack opinions, or people’s right to them, but I will attempt to utterly destroy an argument that attempts to deconstruct my points. With a friendly smile, as usual.
